MNI — Male Nude Illustrated is a picture-led archive about how photographers have represented the adult male body across the history of photography.
MNI begins with photographs rather than theory. The archive moves from nineteenth-century academic studies and motion experiments into physique photography, portraiture, queer photographic history, naturism, documentary work, public performance, and contemporary self-representation.
The point is not to force every image into one definition of art, eroticism, documentary photography, or social history. Those categories overlap. MNI keeps the overlap visible.
Adults only
MNI's editorial policy is to include nude subjects only when they are identified or reasonably understood to be adults through named age, self-portrait evidence, documented adult roles, or reliable institutional description. Age-ambiguous material is not included in the public archive.
A magazine first, an archive second
Individual records retain dates, source links, rights notes and attribution requirements, but MNI is designed to be experienced visually. Features, large images and unexpected historical pairings come first; catalog detail is available when a reader wants it.
